We haven't actually finished going through the photos yet - too much other stuff going on - but I need to include these on the list at some point, so here they are.

It was a good trip though we'd hoped to get more birds. This was to Padre Island National Seashore and other places. We saw whooping cranes, about half a dozen of them, and heard them too, though they sounded more like geese. Probably not the call they're famous for.

So here's what we saw on that trip, partial list:

Grebe, least
Duck, ruddy
Crane, sandhill
Yellowlegs, lesser
Curlew, long-billed
Turnstone, ruddy
Sanderling
Gull, laughing
Gull, Bonaparte's
Tern, Royal
Tern, Sandwich
Tern, Forster's
Swallow, tree
Meadowlark, eastern
Grackle, great-tailed
Swallow, barn
Crane, whooping
Shrike, loggerhead
Flycatcher, scissor-tailed
Sparrow, lark
Avocet, American
Egret, cattle
Stilt, black-necked
Duck, mallard
Merganser, red-breasted
Duck, Muscovy
Plover, snowy

Last year we got 183. This year we're at 111 now but it's going to be very hard to catch up to last year.
