This morning I got a text from Toly that "one of the birds got out".

I said Huxrin was there the last time one got out, she should know where the net is and etc.

He said "He's already back in" (all the birds are male, as far as we know)

And later on Huxrin texted me "one of the peeps got out again" and I asked "did he get back in OK?" and she said "yeah".

It wasn't until I got home in the evening that I found out the rest of the story. I thought one had escaped while Huxrin was cleaning their cage. It's unlikely but possible; one of them would have to dart out through the opening while her arm was in it, and you'd think we'd notice that. Which is what we'd figured a previous time when we realized one of the birds was out.

But no, I'm told that Toly had come down the stairs and realized one of the birds was sitting on top of the cage, not in it. So it appears one of those little boogers is an escape artist. We don't know how he got out, none of the doors were open, and we figured they weren't strong enough to lift up the doors (which are gravity-based, not latch-based).

The end result is, we don't know how he got out either time. The first time, we had to use a net to catch him, and yes he was unharmed by the process. The second time, Mom suggested propping the cage door open. Toly was afraid the others would try to get out, but no, the little fugitive went inside instead.

So we still have a mystery, how it's getting out, because the bars are too narrow for them to squeeze through. I was pretty sure the doors are too heavy for them to lift and hold up while crawling under them. I don't want to buy a security camera to find out what's going on.

Oh, you have got to let us know what you find out with this. :D I'm intrigued.

So far, no further escapes. We checked all over and couldn't find any gaps in the bars wide enough for them to get out. So as yet... no answers.
