CoH Sims: The AMBC Conclusion

Yes, I know it's been a few months since the first half of this. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa! But now it's finally posted. You may want to take a look at the first half to see what went on before. Actually, that might be a really good idea. Go catch up. We'll wait.

All previous CoH Sims Season Two stories can be found here.

Warnings: Manly things discreetly and tastefully hidden by application of fish.

"Yeah, I know, after a while these getaways start to feel too long, and I'm ready to go home too."

Carmine in particular had never intended to stay long here, since this was short-term hiding until the heat died down. The free meals and fresh air were good, but Carmine wasn't gay and therefore couldn't get excited about the same things as the other guys.

The need to keep up the cover story was becoming... awkward.

So it was that one evening, Carmine read in the paper about Vinnie "The Coxcomb" Rastafelli breaking out of the Zig, and concerns that he might be armed and dangerous. Carmine took this as a sign to move on.

Carmine checked out of Rocky Ridge and on to a different hiding place. He'd considered just leaving, but worried that might cause too much concern. He didn't want a missing-persons hunt just when he was trying to avoid attention.

~ ~ ~

Carmine's departure was accepted by the other men as 'one of those things'. They'd noticed he didn't seem quite like the rest of them. Besides, they had their own interests to occupy them.

Indeed, it might be winter, but love was heating things up in Jenison House.

There was one bad moment, however, when Guillermo caught food poisoning from eating the deviled eggs after they'd sat out all morning. Due to the advanced case of salmonella, Guillermo left the house to receive medical care.

Now it was four: Teff, Tag, Quentin and Log. Soon the vacation would be over, and Teff would return to Montana. He was looking forward to it, but... his sons had been right. He'd met some good people here.
Maybe...

"So while I'm off killing wild boars with my bare hands, the rest of them barely do any damn ol' work, just sit around on the beach and suck face. Never givin' me any, the bastards."

Teff had noticed that Quentin and Log had developed a relationship. He couldn't help noticing, as public as they were.

Yes, it seemed like someone, at least, had found what they were looking for on this trip.

~ ~ ~

In the last days of the vacation, the four made an excursion into town, to buy last-minute souvenirs and soak up some local culture.

"Don't get me wrong, Teffer, you're okay. You just remind me of my grandfather somehow."
"Your what?"

"Or any old person. I know you're not, but you act like you're about to yell at people to get off your lawn, and... please don't take this the wrong way, but... you talk strangely. Again, like an old person."
Teff had never thought of himself as sounding old. He knew he was old, and of course he was a grandfather to teenagers, but - he didn't feel all that old.

To prove it, he tried ice skating, which he hadn't done since he was a teenager himself. It wasn't quite like riding a bike, but close.
"Frickin' *&&^%^$!!"
"Okay, that definitely doesn't sound like my grandfather..."

"Log and I? He's a lot of fun once he gets over his shyness. We're definitely going to keep seeing each other after the trip."

Yet Quentin did seem to have a wandering eye.

~ ~ ~

On the last day of the trip, all four got dressed up for actual dates. In Teff's eyes, this made it official, as opposed to just going to town. Log and Quentin naturally went off together, leaving Teff and Tag.

"So, Teff. Last day an' all. Got any thoughts?"
Teff had plenty of thoughts. That was part of the problem. "I think I'll go with the shrimp."
"Not that, Teff. About after the trip."

Time to bite the bullet. "Tag, it's like this. I've got family back in Montana. A lot of family," he amended, thinking about the grandkids and his brother's family, even though Ryan had now moved them to Alaska. "They set me up for this trip. But the town, well... it's got mutants and magical types in it, besides ordinary people. There's not much in the way of jobs there."

"So are you trying to scare me off? Or trying to come up with a reason to tell me 'No'?"
"That's not it, Tag. I..." Teff took a deep breath. "I'd like you to come back with me to Montana. At least for a visit. Not sure you'd want to live there, is all."
Tag almost laughed. "Movin' fast, aren't ya? You want me to move in with you already?"
"I..." Teff realized that, yes, he did want that. He'd been alone for a very long time, and he liked Tag. Tag made him feel alive. "Yes."

Tag said nothing for a moment, the wheels turning in his head. At last he spoke. "Well, a trip out there won't hurt nothin'. An' after bein' shipwrecked on Nonferyuu Island, facin' off against mutants and wizards can't be that hard. So, sure. I'll come back with you for a visit."

"That's it?" Teff asked. "You'll just go back with me?"
Tag shrugged. "Got nobody else to go home to, not even family. I only just got off the island a month before this trip. Might as well see where the wanderin' star takes me, right?"
Teff smiled. "That's... that's great, Tag. Thanks."

Of course, Teff hadn't told Tag about the Immortals, or how he was one of them, or how he'd probably outlive Tag, or that he was himself a grandfather, or any number of other things. But later. Those could keep.

Yay! I'm so glad Teff found someone nice. And's he seems just as rough and tumble as Teff! (Just don't get knocked up on those hunting trips, buddy).

Yeah, Teff knows all too well what might happen. ;) But these two promise to get along great.

A good outcome! Teff and Tag seem well-matched. And Tag cleans up nice, doesn't he? :D

Yes, they do get along pretty well. Though Tag is on the grumpy side sometimes, and was very ornery during some of the dates. ^_^ I think he'll fit very nicely into Three Wolf Peak.

Aw, be happy for Teff. ^_^ He's been lonely long enough. (Plus, this isn't really Shade, after all. And Shade and Tiny are probably both passed on by now, given the time since all the Immortals left Paragon City. ;)
