Ah, family. So important an institution. And thus family values are important too. Because when those values are out of whack, the family is out of whack. That's how it works, right?
The family in question:
Johnny Pandemic - no longer aging. Inventor, mad scientist, hipster, nice guy
Johannes Pandemic - Johnny's clone from the past. Johannes married Christal and they had a son, Burton, who's now an adult (since Johnny's no longer aging, he has the awkward problem of being as young as his own grandson) and, sadly, involved with a crazy person.
Keno Capello - Johnny's old friend Crash Capello (now a Mafia kingpin) dumped his son Keno on Johnny to raise. Keno married his former babysitter Don and they adopted a boy, Chip. Keno apparently has daddy issues since he's now hinting he'd like to date his foster father.
Jan Pandemic - Johnny's, uh, robot daughter he invented and set loose. She's now a paparazzi and stalks him.
Theory Pandemic - Johnny's daughter by alien abduction. She and Johnny resent each other.
Johnny decides to buckle down on this mining thing. Sometimes the neighbors come over and complain if he does it at night, so let's get an early start, eh?
While other gnomes are doing quite well even in their old age. By the end of this installment there are 3 gnome memorials, though.
That night (early next morning?) Johnny goes to the Love Day festival, which is always fun, and he looks so sweetly goofy about it.
It must be the next day. Keno and Don are there too. Keno lost his hat somewhere (middle age transition?).
Johnny also starts trying to reunite with his clone-son Johannes, since they weren't that close after Johannes moved out.
"Okay, let me see if I have this straight. You're my half-brother, and that teenager over there is my nephew?" Ah, what strange things happen in this family.
The fellow in front is Chip Capello, now a teenager. Boy, how time flies!
Thanks to seidoo_ryuu, Johnny now has that converter bench thing and starts using it to make large ingots and stuff.
And to use up some of those gems.
Uh... I'm not impressed. It's supposed to be a skull, but damn if I can figure out the details because of all the colors. Meh.
He also still has some sculpting wants, even though he should be working on that painting skill. It would be nice if he SOMEDAY finished ONE lifetime want.
Johnny doesn't like Crazy Torrey Caldwell. He suspects Torrey has been a bad influence on his (Johnny's) grandson Burton. Torrey is insane and evil, always a bad combination. So Johnny comes over to make sure Burton's okay and to build up relationship (with Burton, not with Torrey).
Crazy Torrey reading in the sauna while completely bundled up.
So I decided to look into the family tree here, mostly to see what people were up to, and discovered I could look at Torrey's whole family tree. Let's see, he has an evil, insane, inappropriate sister...
His inappropriate, commitmentphobic, nitpicky brother...
Holy crap! Okay, Torey "One-R" Caldwell is the one who ogled the Pandemics through the windows of their old house. And he too is evil and close enough to insane to count (excitable). That means Torrey "Two-R" Caldwell, who looks just like his dad, is the one who's actually working in the consignment shop. It also means Burton is in great danger from this whole freakin' creepy family.
By now Burton has somehow gotten a job in the music industry. I think that's his mother in the bed back there (they are at Christal and Johannes' house).
Meanwhile, Johnny's (also crazy) daughter Theory is holding court and demanding public executions.
The nice lady back there is a paparazzi, so she'll document Theory's antics without informing CPS.
This is a field trip. Burton is a chaperone. I bet this was something he was used to saying (to Torrey) and she's used to hearing (from Johnny).
Yes, learn how to be a short-order cook for truckers!
Theory went to the old house and someone else lives there now! That's weird. Realistic, and I know it's old hat to you readers who've been playing Sims 3 longer and earlier than I have. But still.
I could spend points to give her immunity, but what the heck. I want to see if this does anything besides mess up her moods.
Johnny's servo-daughter Jan (wearing her Terminator skin so she doesn't frighten people) takes a picture of the intricate knotwork on Johnny's scarf.
Theory gets this LTW and I like it. It makes sense now. Insane/Hotheaded makes her a crazy artist type. She's full of passion for her beliefs and Art.
Johnny gets Theory a helmet so she won't hurt herself falling down (she is Clumsy).
And suddenly she transforms into a teenager. What is it about the kids actually blood-related to Johnny all wanting to shave their heads?
One makeover later...
Guess what goes with that skintone? Not much. And she got Flirty for her next trait. So in order, she's Clumsy, Insane, Hotheaded, and Flirty. Good times!
Sadly, Harvey the doll didn't become real, and once Theory hit teen, she couldn't do anything else with him. Maybe the next kid will get a chance. Assuming there's another one. Johnny could still adopt, although I think he's ready for a break from child-rearing for a while. Also, dig how skeletal Theory's face is.
"Yeah, I can't wait for her to move out and leave me alone. I should've dumped her on Crash. He could've raised her as a Mafia princess."
A Mafia princess who wears a cocktail dress into the mud bath.
This was when I noticed that instead of needing to sleep, aliens use brainpower to just get stuff done. Which is awesome. After this I saved up points to buy Johnny the "don't need much sleep" perk.
"I can't believe you leave the house looking like that!"
Not that Johnny works real hard at parenting by now. He still doesn't like her much. Which probably means daddy issues for her (=Flirty?).
He does try to teach her how to drive. And they start at night. So by curfew time, suddenly she leaps out of the car and runs a while, heading home. It still counts as learning, though!
Johnny just drives home. Ah, dysfunctional families.
This isn't Keno but some other random ponytailed adult who showed up to talk to her (not a pap, either). Alien jailbait is still jailbait, mister.
Oh, by the way, Theory got busted for being out after curfew while her dad was teaching her to drive. So she tried to apologize, which went against her nature, and Johnny is one of those harsh dads, I guess. She's not happy with him either.
Time to go spelunking again!
New gnome! I wish there was something in the game that kept track of the gnome collection. Yeah, I could look it up myself, but I want the achievement. :P
"Hail and well met, dear fellow!"
This is the first gnome who's made it inside the new house.
"Wait, fish are friends, not food? Really?"
Then they tried teaching how to drive the next night, and the same thing happened. Maybe Johnny has it in for Theory.
Theory was put into "time out" which meant stand there in the front yard for an early taste of public shaming. I bet she can't wait to get out of the house.
That said, eventually she did get 3 skill bars in driving, enough to actually earn a driver's license.
But not without lots of mental stress. The "sneaking out", by the way? SHE WENT TO SCHOOL. And got in trouble for sneaking out too.
&*&^$%S stop it Keno. Johnny raised you, he's not interested in dating you, trust me.
I think this is at Keno's house? I don't remember. Keno is upset over Jan the simbot. Just because she looks human doesn't mean she acts or sounds human. All sims can immediately tell she's a fake.
Lol, matching mouth shapes :P
Keno needs his hat back.
"So, like... Can I borrow a few bucks? Just 'til next week, man. And can I maybe come over to your house for breakfast? You make an awesome breakfast."
Keno is mooching food and money off people still, including Johnny.
Oh, goodness. Don is now an elder. He's a few days older than Keno, so Keno can't be far behind. :(
Theory's brainpower finally got low enough that I figured she could eat a space rock. It's kinda cool (and a good way to use them up if you have an alien in the house).
I don't know if this is the Insane or Hotheaded face. I just know she's cranky. (That said, I think she's the 3rd person in this episode to show that mouth twist.)
One of her needs for her LTW is mastering Writing, so it's time to get on with it. I'm sure Child of Two Worlds is an angsty teen rant. And the first book she ever wrote is a hit - that won't go to her head, right?
Another new gnome! I really should get a checklist together.
Theory went to prom, because she needs a spouse. I had hoped it would be Harvey the Imaginary Friend, but that didn't work, but we all know that they get a significant other at prom if they don't already have one. Theory needs all the help she can get.
Do they mean "dancing" or "ripping up the boards with a crowbar"?
Yes, I really did read this as "Theory beat up the mean girl" at first.
I wonder if she really won anything, or if it was all in her head? It could be, y'know.
Ah, the hell with it. Let 'em get together. Theory and Chip aren't related at all. And she needs whatever man she can get, because I picked Flirty for her teen trait, to go with the Passionate Arteest thing. Chip, remember, started with Excitable and Easily Impressed, which probably will work well with their relationship, though he has Loner and Hates the Outdoors also. Still, there have been worse matchups.
Hooray! I forgot about Johnny's celebrity points and he finally hit 5-Star Status!
Don't ever change, Christal.
Chip and Don. Don's wearing what I call the "hanging on to youth" shirt.
Theory boosts Chip. It probably can't hurt. See if you can boost his fashion sense, Theory! Wait, this is Theory, she probably doesn't see anything wrong with mismatched clothes.
"Okay... yes... right here is the best place to siphon out the sweet, sweet brain juice - I mean, right here is where you got bit by that mosquito. Dearest."
The gnomes are still around, too.
I don't know why the mailbox now has wisplights around it. It doesn't get bills any more, but that seems a bit extreme to get a visual cue. No, it doesn't have mail in it or do anything different.
Watch out, Jan, the gnomes are hungry. Some of them are tinker gnomes, who hunger for metal.
I guess she's pillowing on his feet, but it looks weird. (Is it a she? Gnomish sexes all look alike)
And we leave with a shot of Theory at the Halloween festival, having gone through the haunted house and getting so spooked that she peed herself. Good times part deux!
